Marquee Privacy Policy
This app's policy sits under the FCT Technologies privacy policy, which covers the FCT account and the systems every app shares.
This Privacy Policy explains how Marquee handles information when you use the app.
Overview
Marquee tracks what you watch: a library of what you are following, what you have seen and rated, viewings you have scheduled, and a discovery surface built on catalog data from TMDB.
Marquee requires an FCT account. Your library is stored on your device and in your own private space on servers FCT Technologies LLC operates, so it follows you to every device you sign in on. There is no signed-out mode.
What Marquee stores in your account
When you are signed in, the following sync to your own private, access-controlled space and are scoped to your account:
- Your library: the titles you are tracking, what you have watched, your ratings, and your watchlist.
- Your scheduled viewings, and any companion you named for one.
- The feedback you gave a suggestion, and the links between a suggestion and what prompted it.
Access is enforced per account at the database level. FCT Technologies LLC does not sell your data, does not share it with advertisers, and does not use it to train models.
Everything Marquee holds about a title, its artwork, its synopsis, its cast, is catalog data derived from TMDB and refillable from the identifiers your records already carry. That is why Marquee has no file-upload layer at all, and why signing out can clear the synced rows honestly: it drops a rebuildable cache rather than destroying anything you made.
What stays on your device only
- Your app settings and appearance choices.
- Cached artwork, which is catalog data rather than anything of yours.
- Your import history, which is deliberately per-device: there is no correct cross-device answer to when you ran an import.
- The discovery feed’s own machinery: its reservoir, its position, and which trailers this device has shown you.
Third-party services
Using Marquee means talking to services we do not run. Each carries the title being looked at and nothing about who you are, no account identifier, no library contents, no advertising identifier.
- TMDB supplies the catalog: search results, title details, artwork and watch-provider availability. Marquee holds no TMDB credential; every read is relayed through a proxy FCT Technologies LLC operates, which attaches the credential server-side and returns the response untouched. A key compiled into an app binary is extractable by anyone who installs the app, which is why it is not there.
- OMDb supplies IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic scores, requested by a title’s IMDb identifier when you open its detail screen. Where no key is configured, the app shows a link instead of scores and makes no request.
- YouTube serves trailers, which play in a web view when you choose to play one.
- Tapping a watch-provider, IMDb or TMDB link opens that service in your browser, on its own terms.
Attribution to TMDB and JustWatch is displayed in the app as a condition of their licences.
Identifying a title from a screenshot
If you hand Marquee a screenshot, an on-device model reads the title off the image first. If the image is too hard to read, and only then, it is sent to Apple’s Private Cloud Compute for a second look: Apple’s own private infrastructure, which Apple states does not store requests. It is never sent to a third-party AI service, and never to us. The title that comes back is checked against TMDB, and the entry it adds syncs to your account.
Analytics and tracking
Marquee contains no third-party analytics SDK, no advertising identifiers, no behavioral profiling, and no cross-app tracking. Nothing about you is shared with another company.
Marquee does report anonymous diagnostics to FCT: crash and performance data, a short trail of screen and action names (never content) leading up to a problem, feature-use counts, and timing measurements such as how long setup took. Screen and action names are fixed values built into the app, so nothing you type, view, or store can appear in them.
Diagnostics are keyed to a random install identifier created on first launch. They are not linked to your account or identity, the diagnostics system has no connection to account data by construction, and reinstalling the app starts a new identifier. We use diagnostics to fix crashes and improve the app, and for nothing else.
Deleting your account erases everything in it (see Deleting your data), but not these: nothing marks which diagnostics are yours, so none can be singled out, not by us, and not on request. They expire on a fixed schedule instead: 180 days for usage metrics and counters, 400 days for crash diagnostics, enforced by a daily job.
Permissions
Each is requested at the moment it becomes useful, never at launch, and each is optional.
- Photo library: to pick a screenshot of a movie or show, on the terms above.
- Calendar: to add your scheduled viewings and keep an event in step when you move or cancel one.
- Contacts: used only to show a viewing companion’s avatar when you typed their name. Picking someone from the contact picker needs no access at all.
- Notifications: for reminders about a scheduled viewing.
Deleting your data
Marquee gives you two separate, clearly labelled options in Settings:
- Delete Marquee’s data: erases everything Marquee holds on our servers and on your devices, and leaves your FCT account and any other FCT apps intact.
- Delete your account: erases your FCT account and all of its data everywhere, across every FCT app.
Signing out clears Marquee’s copy from that device; your account keeps it, and signing back in restores it. The clear runs only once everything on that device has finished syncing.
Children
Marquee is a general-audience media utility. It collects no personal information beyond the library you build yourself, has no user-to-user content, and has no sharing surface.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information. No system is perfectly secure.
If a breach happens, this is what we do. Where a personal-data breach is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we notify the relevant supervisory authority within 72 hours of becoming aware of it. Where the risk to you is high, we notify you without undue delay, describing what happened, what data was involved, what we are doing about it, and what you can do. We keep a record of every breach and its handling whether or not it is notifiable.
We hold the whole app fleet to this single deadline deliberately: it is the strictest one that applies to us, so meeting it satisfies the others rather than requiring separate timetables to be tracked and one of them to be missed.
International users
FCT Technologies LLC is based in the United States. If you use Marquee outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States or in other locations where our service providers operate.
