Memory Lane Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Memory Lane handles information when you use the app.

Overview

Memory Lane sits beside your photo library and builds a record of what it meant: your own words about a photo, the people in it, the places and what they mean to you.

Apple Photos stays the system of record, and Memory Lane never deletes from it. The app is an annotation layer keyed to each asset by its identifier, alongside your library rather than a copy of it.

Memory Lane requires an FCT account. The record you build is stored on your device and in your own private space on servers FCT Technologies LLC operates, so it follows you to every device you sign in on.

Your photographs are not uploaded

This is the sentence worth reading twice. Memory Lane has no photo upload path at all, not for originals, not for copies. What syncs is the record: your notes, the people you have named, and the links between them.

Memory Lane does write one downscaled insurance copy per analysed asset, once, so a memory survives the original being deleted from your library. That copy lives in Memory Lane’s own storage on that device. It is never uploaded and it is never synced.

What Memory Lane stores in your account

When you are signed in, the following sync to your own private, access-controlled space and are scoped to your account:

• Your annotations: your own words about a photo, when it was captured, and the identifier of the photo it is about.
• The people you have named: display name, any aliases, the contact you bound them to, and which photo represents them.
• The links you authored between memories and people.

Access is enforced per account at the database level. FCT Technologies LLC does not sell your data, does not share it with advertisers, and does not use it to train models.

What stays on your device only

• Your photographs, which remain in Apple Photos where they already were.
• The insurance copies described above.
• Everything the analysis computed rather than you authored: face detections, the face groupings, and the scene understanding. These are derived, so a new device recomputes them rather than downloading them, and they never reach a server.
• Your app settings and appearance choices.
• The Spotlight index that lets you and Siri find a memory on that device.

Faces

Face detection and grouping run entirely on your device using Apple’s Vision framework. No face data is uploaded and none of it syncs. Recognition is never auto-accepted: a proposed identity is a question you answer, and a tag proves that someone was present, never that someone was absent.

No silent guesses

Every machine output in Memory Lane is a proposal until you confirm it. The interface makes the difference visible rather than asking you to remember it: your words are set in one typeface and the machine’s in another, and one accent colour marks a machine question, never a fact.

Analytics and tracking

Memory Lane contains no third-party analytics SDK, no advertising identifiers, no behavioral profiling, and no cross-app tracking. Nothing about you is shared with another company.

Memory Lane does report anonymous diagnostics to FCT: crash and performance data, a short trail of screen and action names (never content) leading up to a problem, feature-use counts, and timing measurements such as how long setup took. Screen and action names are fixed values built into the app, so nothing you type, view, or store can appear in them.

Diagnostics are keyed to a random install identifier created on first launch. They are not linked to your account or identity, the diagnostics system has no connection to account data by construction, and reinstalling the app starts a new identifier. We use diagnostics to fix crashes and improve the app, and for nothing else.

Deleting your account erases everything in it (see Deleting your data), but not these: nothing marks which diagnostics are yours, so none can be singled out, not by us, and not on request. They expire on a fixed schedule instead: 180 days for usage metrics and counters, 400 days for crash diagnostics, enforced by a daily job.

Permissions

Each is requested at the moment it becomes useful, never at launch.

• Photo library: to read your library on this device and build your annotated record. Your photographs are never copied out of Photos or uploaded.
• Contacts: optional, and used only to bind a person you named to the contact you pick, which is what lets Siri find memories of them by name. Your contacts stay in Contacts; Memory Lane keeps a reference to the one you chose and nothing else.

Memory Lane asks for no microphone, speech-recognition, camera, location or notification permission at all.

Deleting your data

Memory Lane gives you two separate, clearly labelled options in Settings:

• Delete Memory Lane’s data: erases everything Memory Lane holds on our servers and on your devices, and leaves your FCT account and any other FCT apps intact. Your photo library is untouched: Memory Lane never deletes from Photos.
• Delete your account: erases your FCT account and all of its data everywhere, across every FCT app.

Signing out clears Memory Lane’s copy from that device; your account keeps the record, and signing back in restores it. The clear runs only once everything on that device has finished syncing.

Children

Memory Lane is a general-audience utility for your own photo library. It has no user-to-user content and no sharing surface.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information. No system is perfectly secure.

If a breach happens, this is what we do. Where a personal-data breach is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we notify the relevant supervisory authority within 72 hours of becoming aware of it. Where the risk to you is high, we notify you without undue delay, describing what happened, what data was involved, what we are doing about it, and what you can do. We keep a record of every breach and its handling whether or not it is notifiable.

We hold the whole app fleet to this single deadline deliberately: it is the strictest one that applies to us, so meeting it satisfies the others rather than requiring separate timetables to be tracked and one of them to be missed.

International users

FCT Technologies LLC is based in the United States. If you use Memory Lane outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States or in other locations where our service providers operate.
