Scope Privacy Policy
This app's policy sits under the FCT Technologies privacy policy, which covers the FCT account and the systems every app shares.
This Privacy Policy explains how Scope handles information when you use the app.
Overview
Scope is a professional tool: a solo tradesperson walks a job talking through the work, and the app drafts a line-item estimate from their own price book.
Scope requires an FCT account. Your book is stored on your device and in your own private space on servers FCT Technologies LLC operates, so it follows you to every device you sign in on. We are telling you this plainly because it is the part that matters: Scope is not a device-only app.
Reading happens on your device. Storage does not. Speech recognition transcribes your walkthrough on the device, and on-device foundation models structure it into draft line items, none of that reading goes to us or to a third-party AI service.
Your walkthrough recordings are uploaded
We state this separately because the on-device transcription could easily be read to imply otherwise. When you walk a job, Scope records your voice, transcribes it on the device, and stores both the transcript and the recording in your account, so a walk you did on your phone is there on your Mac. A recording too large for our object storage stays on the device that made it, and Scope marks the walk to tell you so rather than leaving you to discover it on a reinstall.
Your customers’ information
Scope is a business tool. The customer details you record, names and contact information, are collected by you, for your business. We store them on your behalf in your own access-controlled space, and no other Scope user can reach them. FCT Technologies LLC does not sell your data, does not share it with advertisers, and does not use it to train models.
What Scope stores in your account
When you are signed in, the following sync to your own private, access-controlled space and are scoped to your account:
- Your business profile.
- Your price book.
- Your customers and jobs.
- Your estimates and their line items, and the signature captured on an accepted one.
- Your capture sessions: their transcripts, durations, status, and the recordings themselves.
- Photos of the jobsite attached to a job or a line item.
What stays on your device only
- Your app settings and appearance choices.
- The Spotlight index that lets you and Siri find a customer, job or estimate on that device.
- A PDF you export, which is composed on your device and goes wherever you send it.
Sending an estimate as a link
When, and only when, you send an estimate as a link, that estimate’s contents are published under a single-use token so your client can open, accept or decline it: your business details, the customer’s name, and the line items with their prices. Resending regenerates the token and supersedes the old one. Nothing is published until you tap send, and sharing the PDF instead publishes nothing at all.
The AI never sets a price
The extraction pipeline’s output schema has no price field, structurally rather than by instruction, so there is no path by which a model can produce a dollar amount. Every price on an estimate comes from your own price book or your own typed entry, and every drafted line item passes a confirm card before it is part of a real estimate. Extraction drafts; you finish.
Analytics and tracking
Scope contains no third-party analytics SDK, no advertising identifiers, no behavioral profiling, and no cross-app tracking. Nothing about you is shared with another company.
Scope does report anonymous diagnostics to FCT: crash and performance data, a short trail of screen and action names (never content) leading up to a problem, feature-use counts, and timing measurements such as how long setup took. Screen and action names are fixed values built into the app, so nothing you type, view, or store can appear in them.
Diagnostics are keyed to a random install identifier created on first launch. They are not linked to your account or identity, the diagnostics system has no connection to account data by construction, and reinstalling the app starts a new identifier. We use diagnostics to fix crashes and improve the app, and for nothing else.
Deleting your account erases everything in it (see Deleting your data), but not these: nothing marks which diagnostics are yours, so none can be singled out, not by us, and not on request. They expire on a fixed schedule instead: 180 days for usage metrics and counters, 400 days for crash diagnostics, enforced by a daily job.
Permissions
Each is requested at the moment it becomes useful, never at launch, and each is optional: the typed estimate flow is a fully equal path that needs none of them.
- Microphone: to record your voice while you walk a job. Transcription runs on this device; the recording is stored in your account, as described above.
- Speech recognition: to turn your walkthrough into a transcript, entirely on this device.
- Camera: to snap photos of the work as you walk. They attach to your estimate line items and are stored in your account.
- Photo library: to import existing photos of the jobsite, on the same terms.
- Notifications: to tell you when a client has accepted or declined an estimate.
Deleting your data
Scope gives you two separate, clearly labelled options in Settings:
- Delete Scope’s data: erases everything Scope holds, your book, photos and recordings alike, on our servers and on your devices, and leaves your FCT account and any other FCT apps intact.
- Delete your account: erases your FCT account and all of its data everywhere, across every FCT app.
Signing out clears Scope’s copy from that device; your account keeps it, and signing back in restores it. The clear runs only once everything on that device has finished syncing, so signing out can never lose an estimate.
Children
Scope is a business tool for a tradesperson’s own jobs and customers. It has no user-to-user content beyond the estimate you choose to send to a client.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information. No system is perfectly secure.
If a breach happens, this is what we do. Where a personal-data breach is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we notify the relevant supervisory authority within 72 hours of becoming aware of it. Where the risk to you is high, we notify you without undue delay, describing what happened, what data was involved, what we are doing about it, and what you can do. We keep a record of every breach and its handling whether or not it is notifiable.
We hold the whole app fleet to this single deadline deliberately: it is the strictest one that applies to us, so meeting it satisfies the others rather than requiring separate timetables to be tracked and one of them to be missed.
International users
